Expansion Joints

Hard-Wearing Metallic & Fabric Expansion Joints

Expansion joints are designed to handle the expansion stress that occurs with heat-induced expansion in draft systems. Expansion joints also work to reduce vibration problems associated with ductwork.

ProcessBarron designs, manufactures, assembles, and splices all fabric and metal expansion joints and frames in-house, for a wide variety of applications including:

  • ID and FD fans
  • Ductwork
  • Stacks
  • Baghouses
  • Precipitators
  • Scrubbers

Technical experts are available for field inspection and expansion joint evaluation services, complete field installation, temporary joint repair and splicing, and turn-key installation. Types of expansion joints currently available include:

Metallic Expansion Joints (round, square, rectangular): designed for corrosive environments or elevated temperature service, and accommodate axial and lateral (bi-directional) movements in flue gas and process duct systems.

Fabric or Non-Metallic Expansion Joints (elastomeric/composite): offer multi-plane movements in a short, face-to-face dimension, and can accommodate axial, lateral, torsional, and angular movements concurrently and require very small spring rates for movements.

All ProcessBarron frame welding procedures comply with AWS D1.1 or the equivalent. All expansion joints comply with Fluid Sealing Association (FSA) guidelines. Expansion joint frames are fabricated using a wide variety of steels, including A36, A588, stainless steel, and other exotic alloys.

ProcessBarron stocks a wide variety of fabrics and insulation for standard and emergency deliveries, for low temperature applications ranging up to 1800°F, and can accommodate molded fabric requests.
