ProcessBarron’s vortex dampers, also known as variable inlet vane (VIV) dampers, are engineered to improve industrial fan efficiency and airflow control by spinning incoming air or flue gases in the direction of fan wheel rotation. Commonly used at fan inlets handling flue gases below 500°F, these dampers optimize fan performance, reduce energy consumption, and extend the life of fan components.
These dampers eliminate the center bearing hub, reducing airflow resistance and increasing blade longevity. Aerodynamically shaped blades minimize airflow resistance at all positions, while integral inlet cones allow precise pre-spinning of air directly into the fan eye for accurate airflow control. Cantilevered designs are compatible with single or double inlet fans, and housings with 180° bolted splits enable installation on existing fans without removing the rotor assembly. Blade shaft bearings and operating linkages can be serviced in place, simplifying maintenance and reducing downtime.
Center Hub Vortex Dampers are designed for clean air applications operating at high static and velocity pressures. The center hub incorporates high-strength, self-lubricating spherical sleeve bearings for maintenance-free, long-lasting operation. Like cantilevered designs, the housing can be split 180° for easy retrofit installation on existing fans.
